Archangelo Corelli: Variations on LaFolia
Jean-Philippe Rameau: Pièces de clavecin

The “little mountain” of Monticello was home to America’s founding father and
polymath genius, Thomas Jefferson and home to the largest collection of music in
the Western Hemisphere during Jefferson’s residence at this famed estate. As an
amateur violinist, Jefferson would have hosted many musical soirées at
Monticello, and in all likelihood, performed several of the works you will hear
on tonight’s concert.
Artists: John Carden,
countertenor; Svend Rønning, violin;
Meg Brennand, cello; Kathryn Habedank, harpsichord

Palace Esterháza, located in Fertöd, Hungary is still famous for its beautiful
gardens and elegant architecture, both inspired by Chateau Versailles. It also
happens to be where a the father of the string quartet, Franz Joseph Haydn,
fashioned this cornerstone of the chamber music genre and where he composed many
of his most important works. We invite you to enjoy the gardens of Lakewold and
the music of Haydn and his contemporaries in music from the garden party of the
eighteenth century.
Artists: Janis Upshall and Blayne
Barnes, violins;
Mary Manning, viola; Diane Tremaine-Kogle, cello
