Vlad III --“The Impaler”-- was the historical Prince of Transylvania who became
“reincarnated” as the horrific icon of Count Dracula by Bram Stoker. Many
historical castles in Transylvania vie for the distinction of being “Castle
Dracula,” which has sometimes been considered part of Romania, sometimes part of
Hungary and always part of legend. Join us as we explore the “un-hallowed hall”
of “Castle Dracula” from the varying perspectives of Hollywood, Hungary, and
Romania!

More than any other city in the world, Los Angeles became the destination of
choice for musicians and literary figures fleeing Hitler’s Third Reich. One
prominent composer living in Hollywood, Arnold Schoenberg, spoke of being
“driven into paradise” by the Nazi dictator. Central Europe’s loss was America’s
gain, and composers such as Miklós Rózsa and Erich Wolfgang Korngold brought
American audiences some of the most sumptuous music ever conceived for the
silver screen. Join us as we explore the beautiful concert music of these great
masters!
