2008-2009 Season: Tales of Two Cities

So often great things come in pairs! Chamber music must occur at least in pairs, if not in trios, quartets, or quintets. What would performers be without an audience? What would composers be without performers? And by our name, Second City Chamber Series seems to imply a pair, does it not?

Join the Second City Chamber Series for our 32nd season of the Masterpiece Series, the 7th season of the Spotlight Concerts, and our 7th Annual Young Chamber Players recital. This year, join the Second City Chamber Series as we explore the great chamber music of the world, two cities at a time in our season, TALES OF TWO CITIES! We'll conjoin the music of New York and San Francisco, Durham and London, Berlin and Leipzig, Paris and Rio di Janeiro, Budapest and Vienna, Paris and Prague, Barcelona and Madrid, and Copenhagen and Stockholm...using musicians from our own Tacoma and Seattle, of course!

Tacoma’s award-winning Second City Chamber Series brings together the Northwest's finest musicians to perform challenging and entertaining chamber music for a diverse audience.

Summer Concerts at the Gardens once again open the season at the beautiful    Lakewold Gardens in Lakewood. Garden strolls, box suppers on the terrace, and    music to match! Two Thursday evenings at 7:30. Please note: parking at Lakewold Gardens is limited; we encourage you to carpool. Also, Washington State Law forbids the consumption of alcohol at public concert events.

This fall the The Masterpiece Series once again returns to its home of thirty-two years, the Great Hall, Annie Wright School, in Tacoma. Four evenings of chamber music masterworks in the old-world charm of this venerable place featuring new and historic ensembles from Tacoma’s rich performing art culture.

A pair of Spotlight Concerts features selected Second City Chamber Series artists in solo recital, providing an even more intimate experience of their artistry. Sundays at 4:00, First Lutheran Church, Tacoma.

The The Young Chamber Players present their annual concert of accomplishment, also on a Sunday at 4:00, First Lutheran Church.

And the Special Event of this season will find you joining your friends at the home of Kathleen and Eugene Wiegman in the Stadium District of North Tacoma to enjoy fine food, wine and a splendid view of the tall ships as they come into town for the festival.
